Prelude Suite 1 in G major by JS Bach – Though I've done this before, there is an infinite amount to say about this extraordinary music that constantly draws us towards it. As always, detailed notes follow the class to help you cook the ideas.

Le Cygne by Camille Saint-Saëns is exquisite music of great poise, control and beauty with so much to teach us about sound, bow control, vibrato and more.

Passacaglia on an Old English Tune 1941 by Rebecca Clarke has now become central to our repertoire and is now on many exam lists. Noble, expansive and very expressive, it has much to teach us, including creating lines with chords and sixths!

Sarabande Suite 2 in D minor by JS Bach is a sorrowful, inward dance with some tricky technical moments we need to own in order to keep the line, its colour, and the dance moving forward.

ONLINE SERIES
Our bow is our voice. We want it to breathe, speak, dance, sing and emote. This is an infinite subject but we do need to start somewhere! I feel we learn best with clear explanation, demonstration, focus and experimentation.
We will explore in varied ways, how our bow use can become increasingly natural to us – to become truly, an extension of your arm and hand. In going slowly and in detail, you will more truly find your own voice and feel able to express yourself more fully and authentically as a cellist & musician.
This series will build your understanding in stages. Some classes may be repeated too.
The instrument we play is large and physical and we need to know how to use energy well and understand movement because sound follows the movement.
I will send you materials for the class ahead of the day and then afterwards I will send documents that help you consolidate and develop our work. The groups will be small enough that we will be able to work individually too to check things are understood.
ALL ABOUT MY BOW
All About My Bow generally works well for more experienced players who may also be professionals too. However, if you have a piece of music in your sights and haven’t played a note yet, come and learn as learning is what this is all about.
Sometimes people are without a cello; they may have an injury or be away from home. Or just feel they want to listen and watch. We learn deeply in many ways, not just one, so join us in way that works for you.
Your informations packs are designed to support the cooking that follows the class.
Some classes are on “big repertoire” and I often arrange another meeting after a cooking period so we can check in on things we talked about and new things that come up, because you’ve developed.
We have such a good time together and enjoyment also helps us learn. I don’t want anyone stressed or feeling “not good enough” that’s negative. So drop your inhibitions and join the team from around the globe and have a ball with us. It really works.

INJURED OR RECOVERING FROM TREATMENT?
We may get injured, or be recovering from treatment and want to continue with our learning and development. It's positive to look ahead. When I have a student who can't use one side of their body, we spend time spotlighting the other. There is a bit of a silver cloud moment for many when they realise there was an upside to their current situation.
If you are injured and want to be with us in an online class, you will learn, observe and evolve regardless of whether you touch your cello. So just give me the heads up, and join. The good news is we do a lot of our growing away from the actual instrument.
